🎯 TOP TRAP – Dems Searching for the "Safest White Boy" for '28? Crockett Drops the Mic on the Donor Class Vibe
📌 Quick Recap:
Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett put the party on blast, saying donors are lining up behind a mystery candidate who "is not a Black person nor a woman" for the 2028 presidential race.
According to Crockett, the fear after back-to-back losses with female candidates (Kamala Harris in '24, Hillary Clinton in '16) has the Democratic donor class whispering, "Let's go find the safest white boy."
This ain't just tea; it's a cold brew of how perceived electability battles against representation, potentially sidelining candidates who look like us and fight for us.
🗣️ Trap Quote of the Day:
"Every time we voted for a woman, we’ve lost so far. ... There’s a lot of people that are like, ‘You know what? Like, let’s go find the safest white boy we can find.’" - Rep. Jasmine Crockett
🎛️ THE TRAP BREAKDOWN – Deep But Digestible
🎤Intro Take:
Look, we just wrapped up a wild 2024, and already the political machine is trying to figure out who's gonna sit in the big chair in '28. But while we're still processing everything, Rep. Crockett is dropping gems that get to the heart of the fight: Does the Democratic party really rock with the diversity they preach, or is it just for the 'gram?
📚Backstory:
This ain't new. The conversation about who is "electable" has always been coded language in American politics, especially when it comes to Black folks and women. Think back to literally any primary where a candidate of color or a woman ran.
The whispers about whether they could "win over moderate voters" or "appeal to a broad base" are just remixes of the same old song. After 2016 and 2024, where both female candidates at the top of the ticket didn't seal the deal, some folks in the party seem ready to revert to what they see as the "default" setting, regardless of the changing demographics of the country and their own party's base.
💸 The Players:
You got your big-dollar donors – the folks cutting the biggest checks who, according to Crockett, are signaling their preference.
Then you got the potential candidates themselves: names like California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, and even former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg getting tossed around as "safe" options.
And of course, you got the people – the voters, the base – whose desires might be taking a backseat to donor anxieties.
🔁 The Pattern:
The pattern is clearer than a sunny day: When the going gets tough, the political establishment often defaults to what they think is the least risky option, which historically means candidates who fit a certain mold.
This strategy often ignores the energy, turnout potential, and unique ability of candidates from marginalized communities to mobilize voters who are otherwise disengaged.
It's the same fear that makes them hesitant to go all-in on bold policies that actually address systemic inequality. They chase the mythical "swing voter" in the suburbs while taking the loyalty of Black voters for granted.
📣 Kinfolk Need to Know:
They scared to bet on us, even though we show up and show out! The party talks a good game about diversity, but when crunch time hits, their comfort zone looks mighty… familiar.
♻️ TRAP TALK: Screenshots That Slap
Viral quote:
“I can tell, and I tell you, it’s not a Black person nor a woman." - Rep. Jasmine Crockett on who Democratic donors are backing for '28.
📊 Stat That Hits:
In 2024, Black voters still overwhelmingly supported the Democratic ticket, with 83% voting for Kamala Harris, even as support among some demographics shifted. (Source: PBS News, AP VoteCast) Yet, the conversation is about who can win without centering that loyal base.
🧾 Receipt That Flips It:
Despite the "fear" of women candidates, Black women voters consistently have one of the highest turnout rates and remain the backbone of the Democratic party. Betting against them or the candidates they support is electoral malpractice, not strategy.
🔨 DO SOMETHING – Today’s Move
✅ Direct Action:
Find out which potential 2028 candidates are already talking to donors and which ones are building grassroots support in our communities.
Pressure the party and potential candidates to commit to a truly inclusive primary process and listen to the base, not just the bankrollers.
Support organizations that train and fund Black candidates.

✊🏽 CULTURE REWIND – Don't Just Inform, Inspire (IGNITE!)
🖼️ Memory:
Remember Shirley Chisholm, 1972. "Unbought and Unbossed." She ran for president when folks said it was impossible for a Black woman. She didn't win the nomination, but she kicked the door wide open and showed what courage looks like. We stand on her shoulders.
💼Spotlight:
Shoutout to organizations like Higher Heights for America, EMILY's List (when they actually back progressive Black women), and local political action committees that are working to get Black women elected up and down the ballot. They proving every day that Black women are electable and powerful.
🎤 Pull-Out Line:
"If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair." - Shirley Chisholm. And if they still don't listen, build your own table with folks who see your value.
